You Spoke, ARMA International Listened

Where should ARMA International focus its attentions moving forward? According to you, our members, it should be on developing more standards and guidelines, increasing awareness of the importance of RIM, and providing education for diverse audiences.

This was the message ARMA International’s Board of Directors and Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) took away from the recent Value Survey it conducted. In that survey we asked you to consider the value provided through the association’s programs and services and tell us which value propositions you value most and rate our performance on delivering that value.

The results of the survey, which received 1,425 responses, were used by the SPC to revise the association’s Radar Screen for 2008 and set the strategic and operational priorities for the association in the coming year.

We encourage all members to review the full Radar Screen and give us your thoughts. Specifically, we’d like to know…

1. How do you determine ARMA International’s success with regards to standards development, RIM Awareness and education?
2. Do you agree that standards, RIM awareness and education should be our top priorities?  If not, what should be?
3. What other issues affecting the RIM profession should be considered for the radar screen?
4. What do you think are the appropriate levels of communication re: strategies, products and services?  If not, how could we better communicate?
5. What effect does the global business environment have on you and your organization?

A Wrap-Up of the 2007 Conference & Expo

The 52nd Annual Conference and Expo was another huge success that drew more than 3,000 attendees from every facet of information management. Highlights from this year’s conference include speaker Michael Oxley offering his thoughts on the future of SOX, the unveiling of the RIM Core Competencies and the announcement of the Cobalt Award, an award recognizing organizational excellence in managing records and information. Also, the Silent Auction collected more than 80 items to bid on that helped raise more than $14,000 for the ARMA International Education Foundation.

Attendees were able to take advantage of various types of educational programming such as pre-conference sessions, exclusively IT sessions, and general educational sessions offering lively discussions on topics and issues affecting the records and information management profession.

When not attending a session or visiting the expo floor, attendees took advantage of all the networking and socializing opportunities. The welcome party was a big hit and had something for everyone. Attendees had their choice of dancing, bingo and even karaoke!
